Ancient Wisdom. Modern Life. Clear Thinking.
When Nothing Means Anything: A Look at Post-Modern Nihilism
I just released an episode on nihilism, and the response has been telling.
Post-modern nihilism isn’t just a philosophy anymore—it’s a mood. A quiet belief system that whispers:
- Nothing really matters
- Truth is subjective
- Meaning is a social construct
- Responsibility is optional
The danger isn’t that people question old ideas—that’s healthy. The danger is what fills the vacuum when nothing replaces them.
When meaning disappears, people don’t become free—they become lost. Anxiety rises. Anger festers. Identity becomes brittle. And without shared values, everything becomes power, performance, or despair.
Ancient traditions warned us about this long ago. When values collapse, suffering doesn’t end—it multiplies.
The solution isn’t blind optimism. It’s earned meaning.
Meaning through responsibility. Meaning through service. Meaning through choosing to live as if your actions matter—because they do.
If you haven’t listened yet, the episode explores:
- Where nihilism came from
- Why post-modern versions are uniquely dangerous
- How meaning—not happiness—is the antidote
Sneak Peek: Medical Intuition & Listening to the Body
Coming up next on Newvision Oldways is a conversation on Medical Intuition—a topic that bridges ancient knowing and modern awareness. Pt 1 of a 3 Episode Series
Join me for a GREAT Interview with Medical Intuition Researcher: Tracy Poff
For most of history, people believed the body spoke to us. Today, we often drown it out.
Medical intuition doesn’t reject science—it complements it. It asks:
- What signals are we ignoring?
- How often does stress speak before illness arrives?
- What happens when we learn to listen instead of override?
We live disconnected from our own signals—fatigue, tension, intuition, gut feeling—until something breaks.
This upcoming episode explores:
- The mind-body connection
- Awareness before diagnosis
- Trusting inner signals without abandoning reason
It’s not mystical escapism. It’s self-attunement—something modern life desperately needs.
A Grounded Holiday Meal (Comfort Without Regret)
The holidays don’t require abandoning health—or joy.
Here’s a simple, nourishing, crowd-friendly meal that feels indulgent without being heavy.
Herb-Roasted Chicken with Root Vegetables
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken (or bone-in thighs)
- 3 carrots, chopped
- 2 parsnips or sweet potatoes, chopped
- 1 red onion, quartered
- 4 cloves garlic
- Olive oil
- Fresh rosemary & thyme (or dried)
- Salt & pepper
- Optional: lemon wedges
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 400°F
- Toss vegetables with olive oil, salt, pepper, and herbs
- Place chicken on top, drizzle with olive oil, season generously
- Add garlic and lemon around the pan
- Roast uncovered for ~60–75 minutes until golden and cooked through
Why it works
- Protein-rich and satisfying
- Comforting without being heavy
- Leftovers are excellent
- Feels like a real meal—not “diet food”
Healthy eating doesn’t mean joyless eating.
A Note for the Holiday Blues
If this season feels heavier than it “should,” you’re not failing.
Shorter days. Family tension. Financial pressure. Year-end reflection. It all compounds.
Here’s something worth remembering:
You don’t have to feel joyful to live meaningfully.
Some seasons are for building resilience, not celebration.
Small anchors help:
- Keep a routine
- Move your body daily
- Eat real food
- Limit doom-scrolling
- Reach out—even briefly
And most importantly—don’t isolate.
Winter passes. Emotions shift. Meaning endures.
You are not behind. You are not broken. You are navigating a human season.
Until Next Time
Newvision Oldways exists for moments like this— when clarity matters more than noise, and depth matters more than speed.
Thank you for being here.
Stay grounded. Stay thoughtful. Stay human.
