So, here I am in the wonderful state of Texas!! Specifically in Dallas for the 2025 Podcast Movement Event. The fact that I am here is kind of a small miracle. Two years ago, having a podcast that people actually listened to was just a pipe dream, now – I am right in the thick of the industry at an event like no other. I decided to write a daily log of my experience at the event because so many people asked me why I was going, why did I go alone, what do I expect to get out of this.?
When I decided to attend, I did think long and hard about why I wanted to go. And the answers came to me with surprising results. It’s like anything in life, you get out of what you put into it. I have been to many conferences in the industries I have worked in, but – admittedly, my heart was not always 100% into what was happening. This one though – is an event that was strictly for me. Is that selfish thinking, yep – it sure is. But sometimes in life, you have to do things for your own desires that will also feed your soul in a positive way. Is podcasting my entire life, of course not. But it is an outlet for my creative side and quite frankly, it has been a tremendous release that has energized me and made me feel whole again. It has provided me with a voice, with a fulfilling purpose and in the end – it has been a journey of self discovery all while helping others see the world and themselves differently. Hopefully, helping as many people as possible live a healthier, happier and better life.
I’m writing this also to reaffirm the fact that it’s NEVER too late to act on your dreams. If it stirs your soul and is a positive thing, act on it. It’s ok if people do not understand your dreams, its ok if people even mock your dreams – why – because they are your dreams, not theirs. Their level of understanding is on them. And if they care about you, then they will support you. If they don’t, it’s because they are probably more upset about the fact they did not act on their own dreams – so not supporting yours, is their little revenge. So be it. let them get stuck in their self-imposed misery. While you – take that chance that others are unwilling. That alone is an act of courage.
Day 1 of this event – this year being held at the Beautiful Gaylord Hotel and resort ( actually in Grapevine TX ) has been a very eye opening experience. I have already made connections with people that with any luck, will be appearing on the show. And – possibly vice versa. The organizers put on a very appreciated Newbee orientation, then I headed out to a talk on Audio / Video technology that may change the industry in a big way. And – to top it off, ended the evening with an event that – going back to what I mentioned earlier about not giving previous conventions in other industries my full 100% – allowed me to network with fellow podcasters and production people that normally, I would just blow off. But – again – you get out of things what you put into them. So I stepped out of my self imposed isolation during these things and made the effort to connect. And honestly, it was wonderful. The point here is, never underestimate what you can do when your heart is “All In”!!
I came here by myself for a simple reason. I wanted my focus to be on the event, not anything else. Having someone to share this with would be great, but being alone – forces you to focus on getting the most out of something like this. I have talked about the Power of Being Alone. It changes how you look at everything. You will either be fully engaged, or you will give into the loneliness and not feel like this event or any event was worth the effort. I prefer the former!!
What do I ultimately want to get out of this? Well, I want to walk away from this knowing if I want to take this to a higher level, or just be happy with my core listeners and hobby aspirations. My hope again is the former. I also want to make those connections that previously in my life, I would not attempt to make, actually becoming an active member in the community of podcasting and learning from my peers. Novel idea right!!?? I guess that might be my Duh moment!!
I hope my thoughts on this event stir a dream of yours to come to the surface!! Remember – it’s never too late to live out what’s in your heart!! I know – I am living proof of that !!
